We’re excited to spotlight our next Senior SLC member, Trent Roberts. From racing hard in varsity to helping shape the league behind the scenes, they bring determination, positivity, and a strong competitive spirit to the WSCL community. Trent’s growth both on and off the bike has been incredible to watch, and we’re excited to see what comes next for them!
What was your first impression when you started in the league? How did you feel about biking at that time?
My first impression of the league was that it was really inviting. I would get into the varsity start chute and chat with the other racers before the race. I loved being in an environment where everyone was still kind and supportive while also being competitive.
How have you seen your biking skills improve over time? Can you share specific examples of your progress?
I’ve definitely seen my race speed improve because of the competitive nature of varsity racing. Last year, I was more in the middle of the pack, and now I’m consistently fighting for podium spots.
In what ways have you noticed an increase in confidence, both on and off the bike, since joining the league?
On the bike, I’ve noticed my racing skills and confidence improve a lot. Off the bike, it’s become much easier for me to meet new people and connect with others.
How have you handled challenges or setbacks, such as difficult trials or races? What lessons have you learned from these experiences?
This year at Riverside, I crashed within the first five minutes while riding with the leaders and got passed by the entire varsity pack. I got back up, straightened my seat and handlebars, and told myself I just had to keep going. I ended up making up over a minute, caught the leader, and won the race. That experience taught me to never give up, even when things go wrong.
How has the SLC impacted you?
It’s meaningful to know there are racers and riders helping make decisions for the league, especially since those decisions directly impact all of us as athletes.
What is your favorite part of being on the SLC?
My favorite part has been meeting a new group of people to hang out with who enjoy biking just as much as I do.
What have you grown from being a part of the SLC?
Being part of the SLC has helped me better understand how the league works behind the scenes and everything that goes into making it successful.
What are your next steps after you graduate from high school?
After graduation, I plan to finish my associate’s degree at North Idaho College.
