Directors Note

Race season is a very special time for me personally. This is a time when I have the opportunity to step away from the desk and see all the bright faces behind the League from our student-athletes, to all our great coaches, our dedicated volunteers and the friends and family of the League.

Races are a time to celebrate our student-athletes as we watch them push their personal and physical boundaries, celebrate their success, and witness the culmination of all their hard work. They are also special opportunities for us to support one another, build community and create a positive atmosphere of infinite smiles.

I am so proud and honored to be part of this community.

Yours in cycling,

Lisa Miller

Race 1: Fort Steilacoom Invitational Wrap-Up

On Sunday March 23, punctuated by sunny skies, the 2014 Season Opener did not disappoint. At the first race of the day, a record breaking cowbell swinging group of spectators turned out to cheer on the start of the first race of the season. Spectators 4 to 5 people deep and spanning the entire start line to nearly the first turn to the single track roared and cheered as the girls and middle school student-athletes staged. At one point the crowd demonstrated their exuberance by doing the “Wave”.

Race Etiquette

Race etiquette encompasses not only your actions on the bike during the race, but also your actions on race day. Remember, we have many first time racers in the League as well as new teams. it is our job to support, encourage and educate all league riders and as ambassadors of the sport of mountain biking, it is our duty to demonstrate superior sportsmanship at all times.

  • Here is a great article on Mountain Bike Racing Etiquette for your review.

The League received several complaints regarding passing. Absolutely no team blocking is allowed and any riders or teams known to be using team blocking tactics will be penalized. Additionally, foul or inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

  • Here is a great article on Passing Strategies.
