Get to Know the Washington Student League in Three Fun Ways During “Meet the League” Season

Evergreen Header

If you’ve been reading our emails for a while, you already know that Evergreen launched the Washington Student League (WSL) for middle school and high school students last fall. After a stellar spring season with more than 170 participants and 90 coaches representing 55 school teams across the state, we’re gearing up for fall with new ways to get involved in the League…Looking for fall riding opportunities? Dirt Explorers starts September 21st!
Registration is now open for this 4-week ride series for students in grades 7-12 who simply want to ride and have fun. If after four weeks students simply can’t get enough of riding on dirt, the Dirt Explorers is a great warm-up for the Spring League which starts in December.

Meet the League Rides are happening in September & October.

Considering joining the league as a coach, participant, or maybe you are a parent that wants to see what a typical Spring League team ride is like? Come on out and meet the local teams and riders, ask questions, and ride your bike.

Where: REI Seattle – 222 Yale Ave. N.
Want to be inspired? Come out and discover the wide-ranging, life-changing impacts mountain biking has on teens – and find out what’s happening with student mountain biking here in Washington.

First, follow the lives of 6 teenage mountain bike racers in Northern California, and see what it means to keep riding at an age when most of their peers have left their bikes gathering dust in the garage, in Singletrack High.

Then enjoy a special short video featuring Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance’s  Washington Student League’s (WSL) coaches and team members sharing their experiences in their own words. And meet some of the WSL coaches and participants in person!

The Washington Student League’s comprehensive mountain bike program grew to 20 teams with students representing 55 different middle and high schools statewide, in its first year alone!

More than just a race league,WSL members participate in team rides, skill building clinics, a leadership summit, stewardship projects, and healthy, supportive competition. Instead of playing video games after school, these students are heading into the woods, and riding towards greater self-confidence, better health and a host of skills that will serve them well for a lifetime.

“Meet the League” Rides Happening September & October

Thinking about joining the Washington Student League as a student, coach or school?

Meet the League rides for the Spring League will be starting in mid-September and happening through October. These rides are hosted by existing teams and coaches, and are an opportunity for anyone interested in participating in the League to come out, meet coaches and riders and go on a guided ride.

Rides are free and will be happening statewide wherever we have a league presence. Students in grades 7-12, parents, school administrators and others interested in getting involved are invited to join a ride. All skill, experience and fitness levels are welcome.

The Spring League includes a Student Leadership Summit, training rides and four races statewide in April and May. Students do not have to race to participate in the League.
