Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance and the Washington Student Cycling League Partner to Provide More Leadership Opportunities for Youth
Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance and the Washington Student Cycling League are excited to announce a partnership to provide more youth leadership opportunities in our state through a joint student mentorship program.
The partnership between Evergreen, the largest mountain bike advocacy group in Washington, and the League, the largest youth cycling organization in Washington, is a natural fit. Both organizations work to create more mountain bike opportunities in Washington; Evergreen primarily through advocacy and education and the League through education and cultivating the next generation of leaders.
During the summer months, Evergreen hosts a series of youth mountain bike camps at various locations across the Washington. These camps are a great way for experienced youth to mentor younger and newer riders, sharing their love of mountain biking while honing their leadership and communication skills. In the next few months, Evergreen and the League will work together educating student mentors and assistant coaches through various trainings.
“Our camps are a great opportunity for youth who want to pass down their love of the sport to the next generation of riders,” said Dan Bassett, Education and Volunteer Coordinator for Evergreen. “We are excited to be working with the Washington Student Cycling League and the students to provide this opportunity.”
For League students, most leadership opportunities are presented through their team and facilitated by their coaches or by serving on the League Student Body Counsel.
“The League has been working on providing more formalized leadership opportunities for our students with outside organizations and this partnership with Evergreen is the first step,” said Lisa Miller, Executive Director for the League. “Evergreen plays such an important role in our state and we are honored to work them towards a common goal.”
