How to Teach MTB Skills for Coaches

Taught by Kat Sweet of Sweetlines

You may know basic mountain bike skills but do you know how to teach them? Learn how to effectively teach and manage the students in your program with this one-day coach training. Curriculum includes tips for working with kids, safely leading groups on the trail and basic skills instruction. Skills covered include cornering, climbing and descending, body position, and wheel lifts to get up and over obstacles. Class starts with a discussion of working with kids and safety pointers, then Sweetlines will teach basic skills, with coaches taking turns practicing teaching skills and guiding rides.

Kat Sweet is a ICP Level 3 Coach and Instructor Trainer for IMBA with 10 years of teaching experience, 3 years as a pro downhiller and currently a pro jumper, host of the Sugar Showdown women’s ridestyle events, former X-Games competitor, producer of the movie “If She Can Do It,” and a facilitator of rad.

“Since I took the clinic, I have felt more confident in not only my own riding skills, but my ability to translate those skills to others that I have been helping out on local rides.  Kat makes the skills instructions short, precise, but creative, with plenty of time to practice and hone your instructor skills.” — Marne Fox-Barrow
